Kind Notes
I primarily teach 12th graders; somewhere else on campus, they were given the opportunity to write a short note, and several chose to write to me. These are exceedingly kind, and I make note of them here only so that in darker days, I can look back on them.
“I’ve had so much fun in your class this year. My highlight of the day was always [Cognitive] psych and neuro because it has always been such a safe and fun classroom environment.”
“I wanted to write… to thank you for everything you did for me in class in the first semester. Your class was the only reason I came to school. Seriously, I would look forward to fifth period so much and have never been more interested in a class before.”
“Your realness and honesty is so appreciated.”
“Thank you for being such an amazing teacher… You made everything so interesting while also making us feel supported.”
I appreciate these notes because I try very hard to balance the academic rigor of my class with their engagement level *and* while still having time and focus to be with my students in personally meaningful ways. I do not strike that balance with every student, I know; but I do try.
