With the new Social-Cognitive Psychology course and the new classroom furniture, I’ll regularly be polling my students with the same set of questions throughout the semester. Below are the first set of results from one month into class.
In all of the Likkert scale questions, a low score indicates an undesirable response and a high score is more desirable.

Below is a question on re-assessment; students are allowed to re-assess as many times as they wish for 7-days. The open-note reading quiz randomly pulls 10 questions from a bank of about 50.

The last question is open-ended, and asks: “Is there some change that I can make – to curriculum, class time, assignments, or the physical room – that will make class better?” Some noteworthy (to me) student responses are below:
- None [x12]
- Mix up seats every once and a while
- I like the desks but there isn’t too much room! Other than that love the classes!
- When I am taking notes on the chapters, I don’t feel like I am retaining it because it is so long and very time consuming.
- More practice tests please
- More time on quizzes
- Couches and pillows and snacks
- Possibly spending some time helping us take notes that will better prepare us for the quizzes and tests. I have a hard time knowing what seems important to include, and to not overcrowd to the point where I cannot find what I am looking for.
- I wish the chairs had another way of holding the backpacks besides underneath the chair. on the chair back somehow would be nice.
- Teach more from the readings, because the amount of reading we have has too much information to retain just by reading
- the reading takes a very very long time on top of taking notes so maybe a little more review of what we read or just a little less reading. is there anyway to make the quizzes and homework count a little more towards our grade? the class is centered around tests which is tough for students who do not test well. otherwise, the content and class is interesting!
