Not all of our ideas for learning activities are fully formed before we try them. This, for example, was a demonstration of group influence. What started as a one-on-one challenge to a game of Ninja, grew when others “spontaneously” joined in. The plan was to have all 28 students join, and the test was whether other students, on Resource Period at the time, would join in.
I had not informed the Deans that we were doing the activity. I just hadn’t thought about them responding to the activity in the Student Center. They shut the game down before it could really get formed.
Next time, I tell the Deans if the demo will be loud at all.
