A number of possible explanations come to mind for this apparent positive correlation between a student’s interaction with the Canvas site for my modern world history course and their grade in the class. The more a student interacts with the course site (by viewing materials in the site; participating in discussion forums, taking practice quizzes; and submitting materials to be graded), the higher their grade in the class, relative to students who have interacted with the site less. The caveats are numerous, and yet the correlation is still perceptible.
Minimally, this will be worth showing/ talking about with next semester’s new students. Maximally, this hints at a possible avenue for intervention with struggling students.
