Urban sprawl is bad; intellectual sprawl is good

Observed for Graduate School

A history teacher at a nearby school asked to observe me for an assignment he had to complete for graduate school; this is the write-up that he turned in for that assignment.

Classroom Observation, 2015

I would quibble over some specific details (for example, I graduated from Our Lady of the Visitation, not Our Lady of Mercy; the mini-lecture was on the inter-war years and the build-up to WWII in Japan, not the Treaty of Versailles), but this is otherwise an accurate representation of the day’s agenda.

It was the first time in about a decade that I reserved the school library for my students to do work there. One class period used the opportunity to talk to the librarians about resources for their term paper, whereas the other class period did not. Both sections did make use of the iMacs in the library to facilitate their database searching, rather than being limited to just their iPads.
