Urban sprawl is bad; intellectual sprawl is good

My final EdTech Committee meeting

I chaired my final EdTech Committee meeting yesterday, March 24, 2015, after eight years serving as the Educational Technologist. I was asked this morning if I was relieved; truth be told, I had mixed emotions. I am looking forward to returning to the classroom full-time; while continuing to teach two sections throughout my tenure as EdTech, my attention was always diverted from simply teaching, and I had too few students, really. On the other hand, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the teachers most interested in adapting their curriculum and their instructional practices — many of whom were the members of the EdTech Committee. Our meetings, which I hope were always called only when there was sufficient reason, were good uses of everyone’s time. We accomplished all of the tasks assigned to us by the school administration, *and* had time for wider-ranging conversations on topics of general interest to modern teaching and learning. The committee was a great group of teachers to lead over the past eight years, and I will miss the level of participation with the group that I had as the Chair.
