Sensation & Perception Psychat

We’ll start with introductions. Let us know what you teach and where you teach it (city if that’s sufficient; state if necessary).

Example

I teach AP Psych in San Francisco.

I teach Sociology in Norfolk, NE.

Tonight’s #psychat (which, for those who may see this and not know, is a scheduled sharing session on Twitter between psychology instructors) will revolve around the general topic of Sensation & Perception, and will start with the questions below. Please tweet your answer using the format: hashtag A(number of the question) Your Answer.

Example

#psychat Q68: Do you include ESP in Sensation & Perception Unit, or in the Consciousness Unit? Why?

#psychat A68 I have always included ESP in the S&P Unit… because that’s where it was taught to me…

The reason for the format above is that it enables those who Follow you on Twitter but are not interested in the teaching of Psychology to either mute your tweets for an hour, or simply skip over them when reading their Twitter timeline. Further, it allows those who join us late to catch up, or those who read the archive to make sense of the stream of back-and-forths.

Further, know that most of us in the chat will be using the livestream search feature built into Twitter and most clients. If you want everyone in the chat to see your tweet, make sure it includes the #psychat hashtag.

Questions

Though the conversation will ebb and flow somewhat organically, as it does in our classrooms, below are some of the canned questions that we’ll kick around (generally in order, and generally asked of the group by me, as tonight’s moderator.)

  1. How do you arrange the Unit? Do you cover all of Sensation, then all of Perception? Do you pair the sensation & the perception of each of the senses? Or do you organize the Unit in another way?
  2. Since we have different schedules, ignore the contact meetings: how many minutes do you spend on the Sensation & Perception Unit?
  3. Do you give a “chapter” test for Sensation and another for Perception, or do you do just one large test at the end of the Unit?
  4. Do you assign a homework project for the Unit? If so, what is it?
  5. Do you assign a homework essay/ FRQ for the Unit? If so, what is it?
  6. What is a great Vision demo?
  7. What is a great Audition demo?
  8. What is a great Olfaction demo?
  9. What is a great Taste demo?
  10. What is a great Touch demo?
  11. What is a great Vestibular demo?
  12. What is a great Kinesthetics demo?
  13. What is a great ESP demo?
  14. On the topic of ESP … how do you … handle it?
