Urban sprawl is bad; intellectual sprawl is good

I accompanied a colleague yesterday as a chaperone for his class’ field trip to Alcatraz Island. His class – Social Justice and Social Movements – had been reading about the 1969 Indian Occupation of the island and the former federal penitentiary, and the field trip was to allow a US Park Ranger to lead the class on a guided tour of the actual sites of the occupation.

I am glad that my schedule as Educational Technologist allows me the liberty to help a colleague in the middle of a school day — even when the learning activity is not related to Technology. Further, I am glad that I have such amazing colleagues who teach such relevant and engaging classes.
