Urban sprawl is bad; intellectual sprawl is good

In Trouble on Valentines Day

Girl Scout cookies count as “lunch,” right? Oh, they don’t? Dang…

After flying in late lastnight from a one-day jaunt to Las Vegas and back for a conference, I decided to work from home today. I sat down at my laptop at 7:57am and went for a run at 3:44pm. During that time, I had a piece of toast and a cup of coffee for breakfast, and then three Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies.

That’s bad.

I was really efficient, and got a whole lot of work done today by not commuting into work… and by not spending time socializing with colleagues in the Faculty Lounge during Break and during Lunch. But, I didn’t consume enough calories. Without the usual school bells, it was too easy to lose track of time while engaged in my work.[1]

Note to self: the next time I work from home, set alarms on my phone to prompt breaks… and schedule my lunch break!
