Today, I wrote to my two Senators and my Representative, urging their attention on our broken system of copy"right.“ I'm sure that like all of my other missives to Washington DC, this will fall on deaf ears… but being a citizen of a Democracy demands that I not just vote, but that I stay informed about political issues, and express my position to my elected representatives.
My message today was short:
Dear ____,
I was dismayed to read the annual report coming out of Duke Law about which wouks *should* be entering the Public Domain this year… but *are not.* This is yet another instance of how our Copyright system has been broken by the lobbying of Big Business (and the heirs of long-dead content producers) to the detriment of The People. I hope you’ll read the report http://web.law.duke.edu/cspd/publicdomainday and be as dismayed as I am — and then I hope you’ll keep this in mind the next time the topic comes up in Congress.
yours,
- Eric E Castro
