Related to my previous post on evaluations done by my fellow faculty members of me as Educational Technologist, here is my annual performance review by my supervisor, the Assistant Principal of Academics:
I thanked her for her feedback and her encouragement. She does a great job of encouraging me to go further – even when the pace of change is slower than I’d like, even when positive reinforcement from my peers is absent – and she does an equally good job of gently suggesting that I put on the brakes when I push for too much, too quickly. I find her feedback on my performance as EdTech invaluable in these regards.
There is an important transition that I need to navigate, however, which she hints at in this review. For the past five years as EdTech and the previous five years as “just” a classroom teacher and Department Chair, I’d been pushing for a one-to-one program for our students — now that we’ve got it, I need to transition my efforts from talking about teaching in the future, to teaching in the now. The future is now here, and I need to help my colleagues with that transition.
